Deliver 8x8 Work Apps and Plug-Ins to Users

You need to install a 8x8 Work app (such as the 8x8 Work desktop or mobile apps) to take advantage of the capabilities of 8x8 Work. The 8x8 Work softphone includes everything your desk phone can do, and transforms your computer or mobile device into a feature-rich, web-based phone. Using your 8x8 Work voice service, you can make, take, and transfer calls, and more. You can install and use any of the following 8x8 Work apps based on your preference and work requirements:

The 8x8 Work for Desktop offers all the functionality of the 8x8 Work for Web in a stand-alone application for Windows and Mac. The 8x8 Work for Desktop is perfect for users who regularly use the same work computer and need to be reachable by phone or IM whenever they are online. To sign in to the desktop application, you must download and install the application on your system. Go to the following link to download and install the app:

In addition to providing a secure login to the 8x8 Work softphone and contacts, the 8x8 Work for Web also offers key unified communication features, such as presence management, video chat between your employees, and access to your 8x8 Work service. To access the 8x8 Work for Web:

Logging in to 8x8 applications is quick and simple. You can log in using your 8x8 credentials or via Single Sign-On from your company's preferred identity management system:

  • Log in using 8x8 username and password: Access all 8x8 applications you subscribe to using your 8x8 username.
  • Log in using SAML SSO: Log in to 8x8 apps using your company's identity management system, such as Okta, Microsoft ADFS, or OneLogin, if enabled. Access all services available to you using your standard company login.
  • Log in using Google SSO: Log in using your company Google Apps credentials to authenticate into 8x8 apps, if enabled. Access all services available to you using your standard company login.

  • Log in using SSO via browser: Log in to your SSO provider via a browser window if your provider no longer supports logging in from within an application window.

As an 8x8 customer, connect to your 8x8 Work phone service from any Wi-Fi zone or 3G/4G network. Once you’ve installed the app, you can log in to your 8x8 Work phone system from your mobile device, and start making and receiving phone calls as though you were using your office phone. Your Caller ID even displays your office phone number! All your 8x8 low-cost calling rates apply, so calling from your mobile device has never been cheaper. Avoid data roaming charges when outside the US by turning off data roaming and using Wi-Fi hotspots instead of your 3G/4G network; since your calls are charged under your 8x8 calling plan, you don't have to deal with international call roaming charges.

To install the 8x8 Work for Mobile for iOS:

Go to the iPhone App Store and search for 8x8 Virtual Office. On finding the app, select it and tap Install. Tap the application icon to launch the application once you have completed the installation. At the prompt, enter your 8x8 Work extension username and password, and tap Sign In. Install Plug-Ins

If you use Skype for Business to handle calls, or Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook to schedule meetings, you can integrate with the 8x8 Work for Desktop by installing the following plug-ins:

Once you install the Microsoft Integration plug-in, you are ready to use the 8x8 Work for Desktop to call people in Skype for Business. In combination with Skype for Business, you can use the full version of the 8x8 Work for Desktop to use a broader range of features. You can place calls from your Skype for Business contact list, chat windows, or dial pad, and synchronize 8x8 Work contact status with Skype for Business.
