Before You Begin
Before you install your phones, to ensure the best possible voice quality, it is important to test whether your Internet connection is suitable for VoIP and to check the setup of your Local Area Network (LAN). Then, install your IP phones (and any cordless phones, or analog adapters for standard phones or fax machines) in order to begin.
Go through the following checklist to get started:
- Ensure that your Internet connection can support VoIP.
- In order to avoid voice quality issues, do not use a combined modem/router on your network.
- Depending on the number of phones you have, you may need to use a network switch.
- Check to see if your router has Quality of Service (QoS) settings; work with 8x8 Support to be sure the settings are configured correctly, or purchase a pre-configured router from 8x8.
