Ring Groups
Ring groups in 8x8 Work allow multiple users to receive incoming calls routed to a shared team, department, or function (such as reception, support, or shared services).
Users assigned to ring groups can view and manage all their groups from the dedicated Ring Groups tab in 8x8 Work for Desktop and Web.
If a user is not assigned to any ring group, the Ring Groups tab will not appear in their 8x8 Work interface.
How Ring Groups Behave
The Ring Groups tab adapts dynamically to the user's permissions and ring group configuration:
-
Groups with login/logout permissions
- Users can manually log in or log out.
- This allows users to choose when they are available to receive calls.
-
Groups without login/logout permissions
- Users are always active members.
- Login/logout options do not appear.
- These groups are often used for routing or forwarding and do not require user action.
-
Automatic interface behavior
- If a user is assigned only non-interactive ring groups, and the admin has disabled the visibility setting, the Ring Groups tab is automatically hidden.
- This keeps the user interface clean and focused.
Visibility of the non-interactive ring groups
Administrators can control whether non-interactive ring groups appear in the Ring Groups tab by using the Display ring groups without login/logout control setting throught the Work Apps Settings section in the 8x8 Admin Console:
- When enabled: Users see all assigned ring groups, even those they cannot log in or out of.
- When disabled: Users see only ring groups that support manual login/logout.
For configuration steps, see 8x8 Admin Console - Configure Work Apps Settings.
