When you send messages to contacts or external numbers in 8x8 Work for Desktop, the messages become available for you to review in a convenient list of recent chats under Messages . From chat history, you can create personal contacts from external numbers for convenience, mark a message as read, or hide a conversation from your personal chat history.

  4. Enter the contact details.
  5. When you are finished, save your changes. The personal contact now shows up under Contacts > My Contacts.

To mark messages as read:

If your colleague sent you a message, but discussed it with you in person and cleared up all their questions before you could read the message in 8x8 Work, you can simply mark these now-unnecessary messages as read to prevent clutter in your chat history. You can mark SMS messages as well, such as spam or messages mistakenly sent to your number.

  1. Open your list of Messages .
  2. Hover over the desired chat, and then click the More option that appears to open a drop-down menu.
  3. From the drop-down, select Mark read.
  4. Select additional conversations to mark as read, if needed, and confirm. The selected conversations now appear as read.

To hide conversations from your personal chat history:

If you receive spam messages via SMS, or find that your chat history is cluttered with old messages, you can easily clean up your chat history. If you hide a message, you do not delete it; other people you chatted with still have access to the conversation in their chat history.

  1. Open your list of Messages .
  2. Hover over the desired chat, and then click the More option that appears to open a drop-down menu.
  3. From the drop-down, select Hide conversation.
  4. Select additional conversations to hide, if needed, and confirm. The selected conversations are now hidden from your personal chat history, but continue to show up in the chat history of the people in those conversations.
