About login and password

You can easily log in to 8x8 Work for Desktop using your 8x8 credentials.

Your credentials and accompanying details are sent to you via email. In the email, check whether you should use an 8x8-assigned username and password, or your existing company credentials (also called Single Sign-On).

Log in

After installing and opening the app, you are brought to the main login page.

To log in:

  1. From the main login page, enter your username and password.
    If you are asked to update because your version of 8x8 Work for Desktop is out of date, you may download the latest version of the app, or request an update from your administrator.
  1. If you would like the app to remember your login credentials and authenticate you automatically, select the Remember Me check box.
  2. Click Login to launch the app.

Note:On the OS-X 13.0 + (Ventura or newer) platform, when launching the 8x8 Work for Desktop application, users may see a password prompt, and they have to enter their account password each time the application is launched. Log out

You can log out of the app at any time from your profile.

To log out:

  1. Click your profile image icon in the header to access your profile.
  2. In your profile, click Log out.

Reset your password

You can reset a forgotten or old password at any time from the login page.

To reset your password:

  1. From the password entry login page, click Forgot?.
  2. In the password reset page that opens, enter your assigned 8x8 username.
  3. Click Send reset to request an email with password reset instructions.

    Note: If you cannot reset your password because you have reached the password reset limit, please contact your phone system administrator.

Recover your username

You can retrieve a forgotten username at any time from the login page.

To recover your username:

  1. From the main login page, click Forgot?.
  2. In the username recovery page that opens, enter your company email address.
  3. Click Find your username to request an email with your username.

Log in using Single Sign-On

Single Sign-On (SSO) is simply the use of your existing company credentials for 8x8 Work. This allows you to seamlessly log in to 8x8 apps without having to use an extra set of credentials. This allows you to seamlessly access all services available to you using your standard company login. Depending on your company identity management system, you can log in via:

  • SAML SSO: Log in to 8x8 apps using your company's identity management system, such as Okta, Microsoft ADFS, or OneLogin, if enabled.
  • Google SSO: Log in to 8x8 apps using your company Google Apps credentials, if enabled.
  • SSO via browser: Log in to your SSO provider via a browser window if your provider no longer supports logging in from within an application window.

To log in using SAML SSO:

  1. From the main login page, click Use Single Sign On.
    If you are asked to update because your version of 8x8 Work for Desktop is out of date, you may download the latest version of the app, or request an update from your administrator.
  2. In the screen that opens, enter your 8x8 username or company email address.
  3. Click Continue to open a list of SSO login options.
  4. From the list of SSO options, select Log in using SSO to open your company’s identity provider login page.

    Note: If you log in using Okta or Centrify, the login page opens in a new browser tab instead of in the application window. Until you log in, the application window reads Login from browser....

  5. Enter the credentials for your company’s identity provider to log in.

To log in using Google SSO:

  1. From the main login page, click Use Single Sign On.
    If you are asked to update because your version of 8x8 Work for Desktop is out of date, you may download the latest version of the app, or request an update from your administrator.
  2. In the screen that opens, enter your 8x8 username or company email address.
  3. Click Continue to open a list of SSO login options.
  4. From the list of SSO options, select Log in using Google to open your company’s Google login page.
  5. Enter your company Google credentials to log in. You may be prompted to grant SSO access to your Gmail profile.

To log in using SSO in your browser window:

  1. From the main login page, click Use Single Sign On (browser) to open your browser.
    If you are asked to update because your version of 8x8 Work for Desktop is out of date, you may download the latest version of the app, or request an update from your administrator.
  2. In the browser page that opens, click Use Single Sign On, and continue to log in as you would for SAML SSO or Google SSO.
