About the 8x8 for Microsoft Teams app for users
The 8x8 for Microsoft Teams app (8x8 Teams app) brings business messaging directly into Teams, allowing users to place calls, send or receive SMS, MMS, and faxes using their 8x8 business number.
Users can also view or listen to their business or group voicemails and log in or out of assigned call queues. Additionally, users without a Teams Phone license can place Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) calls directly from Microsoft Teams through the integrated 8x8 Teams app.
The 8x8 Teams app also adds self-service access so that Teams users can change their 8x8 call management settings without unnecessary IT intervention.

Features
With the 8x8 Teams app, you can:
- Initiate calls directly from Contacts or Voicemails in the 8x8 Teams app. Depending on your setup and licenses, the call is initiated:
- As a PSTN call initiated from within the 8x8 Teams app and launched into the 8x8 Work client (if installed) or web experience. Only available for users without a Teams Phone license with Presence Sync enabled and 8x8 Work running alongside Teams.
- As a native Teams call through Direct Routing as a Service also known as 8x8 Voice for Microsoft Teams for users with a Teams Phone license.
- Log in and log out of call queues and handle calls directed to the queues.
- Create, modify, and remove personal contacts, but only when an administrator enables the Enable Contacts in MS Teams option in the 8x8 Admin Console’s Work Apps Settings section.
- Navigate to the analytics of a selected call queue to detect any performance issues.
- Send and receive SMS/MMS messages (available in select markets).
- Send and receive faxes.
- Select the default music-on-hold or add a custom recording.
- Access call recordings and set up your recording preferences.
- Filter, listen or see transcription of personal voicemails. (Note: Transcription of group voicemails is currently not supported.)
- Set up your 8x8 voicemail preferences.
- Set up External call ID settings.
- Define call forwarding preferences for your extension.

To place outbound PSTN calls without a Teams Phone license, you must have:
- 8x8 Presence Sync enabled by the admin
- 8x8 Work installed (desktop, mobile, or web)
Note: Users with 8x8 Direct Routing as a Service (have an active Teams Phone license) should not install the 8x8 Work app since it is not required for calling.
