Tour the Virtual Office Desktop App Interface

The 8x8 Virtual Office desktop app allows you to effectively and efficiently communicate with your company contacts via phone calls, messaging, meetings, and more. The primary features of the app visible in your navigation menu are as follows:



SearchSearch for contacts by name, phone number, title, and more!
Call queues: Access your assigned call queues, and view call queue activity details.

CallsMake and manage calls, and review voicemails.

  • Calls and Missed: Make calls, and access past call details for incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.
  • Voicemails: Review and manage all voicemails sent to you.

ContactsAccess and reach out to your favorite, company, and personal contacts.

  • Favorites: If there are contacts you frequently communicate with, you can mark them as favorites for quick access.
  • Company: View and communicate with the contacts on your company phone system.
  • My Contacts: View and communicate with personal contacts created or imported using Virtual Office.

MessagesSend chat messages, and access all message history with company and personal contacts via Virtual Office.

  • All: Chat with individual contacts, or with groups. To view only individual chats or only group chats, refer to the following tabs:
  • 1-1: Chat with company and personal contacts individually.
  • Rooms: Chat with teams or small groups to collaborate on projects.

MeetingsJoin, create, and manage Virtual Office meetings.

FaxReceive and manage faxes from other users.

Call RecordingsManage your call recordings.
Call usingSelect your microphone and speakers for calls handled in Virtual Office.
Settings: Personalize your settings to enhance your Virtual Office experience.

Switch Between Expanded Mode and Compact Mode

You can easily switch between the compact and expanded views of the interface by going to View in the top menu bar of the app, and selecting Expanded Mode or Compact Mode from the resulting drop-down menu. When you first log in to Virtual Office, the app opens in Expanded Mode. Expanded Mode shows two columns of information for at-a-glance access, or three columns if additional information on a tab or contact is available; check chat logs with a selected contact while viewing their user details, easily see if you've messaged a number that called you, and more. You can also switch between modes by clicking and dragging the edge of your application window. This allows you to select the app view that best suits your needs.

Switch Between New and Classic Interfaces

Starting with version 5.0 of the Virtual Office desktop app, we bring you an all-new user interface designed for improved usability and convenience. You can go to Settings in either version of the app to switch between the older and newer interface. Currently, there are some settings only accessible from the classic interface.

Note: Starting with version 6.0 of the Virtual Office desktop app, Classic Mode is no longer supported.

Note: As a user of version 5.9 or older of the Virtual Office desktop app, you can only access Classic Mode if your organization is a Virtual Office Classic customer. If your organization has requested to disable Classic Mode access (or is an X Series or Virtual Office Editions customer), Classic Mode is not available.

To switch to the classic interface:

  1. While using the new interface, go to More > Settings.
  2. Enable Virtual Office Classic.
  3. Accept the prompt to restart the app. You may also need to accept the terms and conditions for classic mode. When the app reopens, the classic interface is enabled.

To switch to the new interface:

  1. While using the classic interface, click the Settings icon in the bottom toolbar to open the Settings window.
  2. In the General tab, enable Switch to New Experience.
  3. Accept the prompt to restart the app.
    When the app reopens, the new interface is enabled.
